Is Technology Moving Too Fast For You To Keep Up?
I think so! As a technical consultant, most of my clients call in for help with issues such as buying a new computer, new software, what should I use for email, how can I manage my work with my team, efficiency needs and of course…tech support. Many of my clients find us via LinkedIn and the majority of them complain that technology is moving too fast. I have to agree! I have found that even working in technology, it’s all too fast for me, too. I think what’s moving too fast right now is all the smartphone and Windows 8 changes. Even though I work in the field, I too have a lot to read up on. I can’t spend my days surfing Tech Crunch or those hyped up techie sites to keep up (Just like you all, I run a business!). Some days I find myself drowning in technology.
Even as a social media enthusiast, I can’t keep up with the ever changing social media apps and fun stuff. I noticed this years ago after I wrote my eBook about social media; everyday there was something new to learn and figure out. I get a lot of information from of course LinkedIn and Facebook, but feeds are hard for me to keep up with there, too. I catch probably 5% of what is being pushed out. When my friends ask, “Didn’t you see my update”….I usually say, “No, when was it,” because I only see what comes up when I log in (usually a couple of times a day).
The iPhone is a lot to keep up with for me, too. Everyone talks about this app and that app, and to be fair, I use my phone for 5 things – phone, text, check my email and my calendar on the road, and do Facebook messenger because my best friend is completely addicted to it. Yesterday I unplugged my phone during an update… not the brightest idea I found out. But luckily my computer did a backup before it had to restore to factory (UGH). So I ended up losing all my apps, but my data was safe. I didn’t even care. I never used the apps.
What are your thoughts on technology moving too fast? Or are you keeping up? And if so, how much time do you spend on the upkeep?
Do you need an email therapist?
Maybe you do, maybe you don’t? Many of my clients have told me over and over that when they book an appointment with me, they feel like they are booking a therapy appointment. I am guessing it’s because of the calming methods I use to get information out of them and how they manage their inbox. Or because they feel they went through a minor exorcism. Either way, at the end of our appointments, I have you thinking completely different about how you manage your email and more importantly, your email life.
- If you find yourself lost in your own email on a daily basis, you may need some help with your set up.
- If you can’t find important emails, you may need organizing help.
- If your Outlook is getting clunky and slow, you should call me quickly because that’s a sign of it crashing.
- If you have multiple email accounts and nothing syncs, there are solutions out there to help you.
- Are you and your team (or just you) emailing yourself documents so you can have a copy on another computer? Stop that madness now. I know I have solutions to help you with this!
- Are you an email hoarder? Can’t let anything go? I am an email hoarding specialist and work with you to learn to let go, but yet keep those emails…just somewhere else.
I have written many blogs about Outlook and helping. If you’re not sure you’re ready to book an appointment yet, please go to our search function at the top of the page and type in “Outlook” and you will find many more blogs I have done on the subject to help. Are you ready right now? Please call 612-865-4475 and ask to get on Lisa’s calendar. I’m here to help!
5 Reasons Your Company Needs Microsoft Hosted Exchange For Email & Calendar
Ah just let me tell you all how many happy clients I have been seeing lately. Now is a good time for many people, business is good and people are ready to get their business technical needs in order. Sometimes things take time, the right time, the right budget…or just the last time you wanted a headache over technology.
So you may be asking, what is Hosted Exchange? In a quick sentence, it’s a simple way to manage your email, contacts, calendar and tasks “in the cloud” and everything just synchs.. I moved our company to this platform about a year ago (after having struggles of sharing my calendar with my employees) and would never go back to IMAP or POP for managing mail and just having Outlook standalone manage my other work. Sure, it costs a few bucks a year to do, but once you’re on it and see it working, it’s a valuable business tool and great asset for your company. Just one person can enjoy hosted exchange or those that really enjoy it are larger teams of staff who need access to each others inboxes/email, calendar, contacts, tasks and public folders.
Now on with the list in random order…
#5 Everything just synchs! Are you the type who has 3-5 devices and nothing synchs? This solves that problem. iPads, iPhones, Androids, Windows phones, tablets, computers and the online web version all work great.
#4 Out of office messages work (finally!)
#3 Share your calendar with your team flawlessly, allows permissions levels of others to view your calendar, edit and manage. Get rid of back door or 3rd party applications.
#2 Free Outlook 2010 upgrade ($130 value)
#1 You can share all of your company’s contacts and update with ease instantly with other team members.
Here is a bonus, assign tasks to other team members. This feature is not like Microsoft Project, but if you have delegation needs, assigning tasks works great. The other member can update the task and it stays in the to do bar in Outlook nicely.
With that all said, I could probably rattle off another 5 awesome things about hosted exchange. I mostly just love the feel of having the corporate environment back in my life, even though I don’t want to go back there 🙂
