Outlook Isn’t Sending Due to Comcast Port 25 Change
This posting, while old…still receives a lot of Google hits. I keep it up here for a reason. Not only are people having issues still with Comcast email, they also are getting hacked. As an Outlook Expert, I recommend if you are using Comcast email for your business, to move off this program and start using a more secured business email account. (This usually is your business name.com) I can assist with this transition for you.

Just a heads up to all of our followers, Comcast had a port switch some time ago… that may cause your email to stop working properly. You probably received a notice from Comcast on this issue and for many people, it will work. For some of you, the instructions DO NOT WORK.
If you have an older version of Outlook or some other host, you may be having problems sending email. First, close and re-open your email, then try sending again to make sure Comcast is the root of your problem. If it’s still not working, check out this site for instructions on how to fix it, .
What Facebook Email Spam Looks Like
I got two Facebook emails this past week. Both looked legit, but luckily they were in my junk folder and I could see the spam underneath. I thought it would be fun to share with you all how sneaky these email spammers can be.
Now if you notice in the 2nd picture (click on the pictures to enlarge), it states in my Outlook program that it might be a phishing site. But would you notice that? Like most people, we just see that we have a problem with our email and our precious Facebook account. This is just one of the many ways hackers get into your account. But the question is…how did they get my Facebook email account in the first place to send me this information?
Hackers can easily make fake emails that look like they’re coming from Facebook with legitimate-looking credentials; after that, all they need is your email…
Your email address may be visible in the contact information section of your profile or it might be downloadable by ‘Friends’, so make sure it is inaccessible. Go to Account Settings > Email and make sure the appropriate boxes are selected. Another suggestion is to change your primary email address to one that only you know. If you have to, go make a free email account specifically for Facebook.
Also, make sure the password for your email is different from the password for your Facebook account (and all of your accounts for that matter)- and make them complicated! It makes hacking more difficult.
Another possibility is that the security of your browser is making you susceptible to hackers. To make sure you are using Facebook securely, go to Account Settings > Security > Secure Browsing and make sure that this is enabled (https). For general protection on the internet, type in https instead of just http in the URL when going to websites. The “s” in https stands for secure!
It is also important to make sure that your browser is up to date. If the version you are using is old, you may have missed some important security updates, so don’t ignore those browser update notifications.
The hackers will always be out there trying to make our lives more complicated, but if you take the time to make sure you are being safe, it will be much more difficult for them to attack you.
Do you need an email therapist?
Maybe you do, maybe you don’t? Many of my clients have told me over and over that when they book an appointment with me, they feel like they are booking a therapy appointment. I am guessing it’s because of the calming methods I use to get information out of them and how they manage their inbox. Or because they feel they went through a minor exorcism. Either way, at the end of our appointments, I have you thinking completely different about how you manage your email and more importantly, your email life.
- If you find yourself lost in your own email on a daily basis, you may need some help with your set up.
- If you can’t find important emails, you may need organizing help.
- If your Outlook is getting clunky and slow, you should call me quickly because that’s a sign of it crashing.
- If you have multiple email accounts and nothing syncs, there are solutions out there to help you.
- Are you and your team (or just you) emailing yourself documents so you can have a copy on another computer? Stop that madness now. I know I have solutions to help you with this!
- Are you an email hoarder? Can’t let anything go? I am an email hoarding specialist and work with you to learn to let go, but yet keep those emails…just somewhere else.
I have written many blogs about Outlook and helping. 5 Reasons Your Company Needs Microsoft Hosted Exchange For Email & Calendar
Ah just let me tell you all how many happy clients I have been seeing lately. Now is a good time for many people, business is good and people are ready to get their business technical needs in order. Sometimes things take time, the right time, the right budget…or just the last time you wanted a headache over technology.
So you may be asking, what is Hosted Exchange? In a quick sentence, it’s a simple way to manage your email, contacts, calendar and tasks “in the cloud” and everything just synchs.. I moved our company to this platform about a year ago (after having struggles of sharing my calendar with my employees) and would never go back to IMAP or POP for managing mail and just having Outlook standalone manage my other work. Sure, it costs a few bucks a year to do, but once you’re on it and see it working, it’s a valuable business tool and great asset for your company. Just one person can enjoy hosted exchange or those that really enjoy it are larger teams of staff who need access to each others inboxes/email, calendar, contacts, tasks and public folders.
Now on with the list in random order…
#5 Everything just synchs! Are you the type who has 3-5 devices and nothing synchs? This solves that problem. iPads, iPhones, Androids, Windows phones, tablets, computers and the online web version all work great.
#4 Out of office messages work (finally!)
#3 Share your calendar with your team flawlessly, allows permissions levels of others to view your calendar, edit and manage. Get rid of back door or 3rd party applications.
#2 Free Outlook 2010 upgrade ($130 value)
#1 You can share all of your company’s contacts and update with ease instantly with other team members.
Here is a bonus, assign tasks to other team members. This feature is not like Microsoft Project, but if you have delegation needs, assigning tasks works great. The other member can update the task and it stays in the to do bar in Outlook nicely.
With that all said, I could probably rattle off another 5 awesome things about hosted exchange. I mostly just love the feel of having the corporate environment back in my life, even though I don’t want to go back there 🙂

Outlook Suggested Contacts: What are they used for?
If you have installed Outlook 2007 or Outlook 2010, you may have noticed the new “Suggested Contacts” in your contacts area in Outlook. What does it do? How do you use them? What are they for? How do names get there!
Here is the Microsoft Explanation
But here is my simple explanation:
Outlook’s Suggested Contacts do a few things
- Keeps email addresses you have emailed in there if you have not saved them as a contact, but it does not nicely organize them by last name/first name. Consider it a “reply email database”. Otherwise known as your favorite “Auto-fill” (what happens when you open a new email and start typing someone’s name and it auto-populates people you have emailed). It’s Outlook’s “Memory bank” of who you have emailed in the past.
- If you leave one email provider and move to another, getting your contacts in your “auto-fill” can be returned
Con’s
- I think it’s picky because not all the emails I have sent are in there, so don’t depend on it to work 100%
- No organization unless you manually go in and add in the first name/last name.
- Not reliable, but better than nothing
Pro’s
- Not everyone has a CRM system so I appreciate when I move to one computer to the next that I have a way to gathering those email addresses up in one swoop without bogging down my contacts in Outlook.
- If you have an iPhone, every person you have ever emailed gets added to it (yeah, not fun to clean up), but they don’t all show in Outlook.
For a great story on how to disable this, I found this article. How to disable Suggested Contacts in Outlook 2010 by Black.

Fake Emails, Beware!
Here’s a couple of bogus emails I recently received, don’t fall for these or click on the links!
This first one is the worst I’ve seen! There’s not even a company name! What account information has been changed exactly? And who’s support center am I supposed to be contacting? Nice try… NOT!
This is a fake LinkedIn message alert I got in my email the other day… Yep, even LinkedIn gets spammed.
If a message like this ever infects your computer, Call That Girl and we’ll get you and your technology back in good health!
