I’m in LinkedIn jail and I will stay there
I got put in LinkedIn jail about a month ago. You get put in jail when you get to many folks that say “I don’t know this person”…and then you are restricted to inviting people to your network only if you have their email address.
Not a big deal, just a bit more of a hassle if you want a bigger network. To just prove that I will continue to thrive on Linkedin without the “invite” by regular options, I am staying in jail. I won’t ask to be “released” and I bet I can still get to 3000 connections by end of summer.
I’m out to put my theory to the test! For me to do the manual labor for this, will only help me market and advertise, so thank you LinkedIn!
Just sayin’.
Happy Sunday everyone…I’m out to figure out a new way to market and connect!
★Email hackers are on the prowl again★
★Email hackers are on the prowl again★
I had one client this week get taken by the hackers and I received another email from someone questioning it. I did some research and found many folks on the internet having this same hack happen to them.
Change your internet email account password and here is why…
Please read this information
* Hackers are logging into your email accounts, sending spam to your contacts and then changing your password.
* These emails usually include a message about “you” being out of the country and losing your wallet and needing money sent to get you back to the US.
* They are wrote in choppy English, but it’s still wrote in a manner that appears personal.
* You are not notified until one of your contacts tells you about it
* You may or may not be able to log in and see the emails being sent as your password has been changed.
* You will have to notify hotmail, yahoo or gmail about the hack to get your account repaired so you can log in again.
* If you do not pass their account credentials to get it repaired, you will have to create a new account and start over and lose all of your contacts and personal information you have in the email folders/lists, etc. This is sometimes your bread and butter! I know many small business folks who are using hotmail for business and think of all the client information you keep on hotmail’s servers. Change your password today to a unique password for email only.
★What Happened and how to prevent it★
Someone got into your account. How did they do this? Do you recall a time lately when you had to fill in a web form or another website to create an account and possibly had to fill in a password? I’ll bet it’s the same password for your email. This is very common! Everyone uses one password for email, Myspace, Facebook, YOUR BANKING, etc…
The hackers are either getting access to those web form databases and/or are using fake forms to get your information and are by luck, gaining access to the account by the information those that gave them: the email and a password.
This is why you should change your email account password to something VERY unique and do not use it for any other sites on the net. I also recommend you back up your contacts asap…just in case. If you need help with this, feel free to Call That Girl for a phone support call and I can help you with this.

Internet Virus is out there hitting the streets hard
In easy to understand terms…there is an Internet virus spreading like wild fire right now. I see this in my shop at least a couple of times a week. It’s not a virus that is usually caught by your standard anti-virus program. I call this thread of viruses “A family”. It’s actually got a few names that it runs under but for the general user, they will see “Antivirus 2008 ” or “Antivirus 2009” on their desktop or start getting pop up ads for removal.
There are many ways the virus tricks you into downloading it. One way is through the fake “Google” window, they replicated Google and the whole window is “the virus” so no matter what you click on, even the X in the corner…you have activated a download. This is very tricky to avoid, so I just recommend going to your start menu and rebooting your computer. There are other ways to close this window, but for the general user, this is easiest. This goes for Macintosh users as well…I have seen the “windows” pop up on my Macintosh.
Once you get the virus, if you get it removed right away…you’re in good shape. If you let the virus grow, your computer could end up on the reformat block (meaning, starting your computer from scratch and losing everything if not backed up).
A few tips and tricks…
- Back up your data, music, pictures, and any important information right away. It’s best to back up your “stuff” weekly. Take the few minutes to do this and you will be thankful you did.
- If you get a pop up about this virus in any regard, do not touch the box at all. Reboot your computer and do not go back to that website you were just on. That’s the easiest way to get rid of that box. Those boxes have words in it that you have to read carefully and even a “No I don’t want to download” will actually probably still download the virus. It’s best to not go back and reboot.
- If you have this virus now and have just recently noticed it, I can assist over the phone with you to remove it. Removing it now rather than later will save you headaches as it will slow down your computer and get it to a stage it will not let you use the computer.

Adding in some “flair” to your LinkedIn profile
I’ve had a few folks ask me how I got the “stars” in my title and profile. To be honest, I saw the stars on someone else’s profile and copy and pasted into mine. I like having a bit of Rock Star on my profile as I’m a networking goddess and deserve to wear that tiara online! right? ★
Here is a list of fun ones to add some “flair” to your profile. If you would like to try others, feel free to test from the symbols area of Microsoft Word or HTML characters. If you have any more questions, feel free to email me at Lisa@callthatgirl.biz

I’m a pc but trying a mac
Have you seen those commercials? “I’m a PC” from Microsoft? Their advertising trick to get more people into PC’s rather than Mac’s? Moving people over from one system to another is not that easy, and I’m proof.
Last spring while I was doing mad networking and events, I was asked over and over if I “supported Mac’s”…and I do, I just didn’t have current experience. I started out on Mac’s in 1996, but left once my computer lab at Winona State moved to a PC geared lab. In April of last spring, I bought a MacBook because I didn’t want to start losing potential clients, I needed to be able to support both systems.
I have to admit, I’ve had a hard time getting used to the Mac. For the first months, it was rarely booted up. I set up my email and played with Safari a bit, but didn’t do much else. In August of 2008, I moved my home based office to a professional building near downtown and made the decision to take all my PC’s to the office and only use the Mac at home. I worried that I wasted $1300 on the Mac!
3 months later, I’m finally used to the Mac, the tools and how it “works”. Everyone says using a Mac is so easy, but it’s not that easy if your stubborn and don’t want to learn it. As well, it’s probably easier for someone who is new to computing.
In my troubleshooting visits, I get asked quite often “Should I switch to a Mac, I hear they are so reliable”…and my answer is this “That’s what I hear too. They are pretty expensive in comparison to a $400 PC”.
According to my Google Analytics site, here is the operating system run down.
Windows 78.29%
Macintosh 21.01%
Linux 0.42%
iphone 0.28%
Wow, the iphone made it as an OS! LOL….that cracks me up, but nonetheless, it has to be considered in today’s fast and getting faster world of technology.
To close, I have been taking Mac calls for a few months now and almost all of the issues I deal with are still application related and I can support any application, so it’s worked for me. For those that are considering switching over, I highly recommend that you buy all the software you will need to make the transition more smooth.
Today I am installing a new printer. We’ll see how that goes. The last one I installed had driver complications and I gave up on trying to fix it LOL.
