Holy crap, April is here! YAY! I am so excited for spring! The past month of moving and chaos is about over. I finally feel like I’m living normal, but of course I have some unpacking of closets left, the boring stuff. Organizing more crap I don’t use! (why am I keeping it??).

This weekend I treating myself to a “self retreat”, locking myself up in my apartment with the dog and cats and doing some spring cleaning, taxes and work projects that MUST get done. I have been so busy with clients lately that I haven’t had time to do the project work. What is that? Fun stuff! I’m moving my office in the next few months and have to do budgets and planning. My little office on Nicollet has become to small for my work load and the training that I offer. I am looking for a space that gives me a reception area, workshop and an office. I need about 750 sq ft for this I’m guessing. I am out looking now and have found a few tasty spots, but nothing is set in stone. It’s exciting to see my business flourish to the point that I have outgrown my current office, but it’s also a bit “omg, I am there!”….

When I started my business, I worked out of my basement apartment. A full year almost of working down there and out of my truck and being on the road. I decided to get an office because I was just exhausted with the up and downs and working out of my house. It became way too easy to work in my pajamas all day! I got the office in August 2008 and since then, business has been slowly building.

Other than being totally excited for my weekend, this week has been great! I just finished up a meeting yesterday for my first official partnership which will be announced very soon here. Lots of new clients too, and that is always great:)

Well well! I am ending the week with 17 clients. A record for me! The best part? I feel “normal” and not overwhelmed, so that must mean I’m doing some good balancing for once. I think that as the biz grows, I will learn to make adjustments better. Some weeks I totally feel overwhelmed and stressed and weeks like this, I don’t. So I think I’m doing something right!

Being an entrepreneur is not an easy life. Before I moved, I was working too many hours and now with the new move, I have learned to enjoy my life at night and relax, do fun things and not worry about every email or every message on FB or Linkedin.

I’m so excited for the weekend to be here, tomorrow is a slamming busy day…then I will end with a nice happy hour with my friend Mary. I have no plans this weekend, but I do plan on organizing some of the closets that need it from the move. You know how it goes…shove shit in to just get it “unpacked” and deal with it later. I am about half done with the closets.

So it’s spring almost! I have big plans for spring! I am in “dog park bootcamp”. What is that? I moved closer to my favorite dog park so I could walk at night , but it’s still a bit too far for me to walk right now. I’m walking everyday farther and farther so in a few weeks, I can walk there with no issues of being tired or “it’s too far”. I will walk to that dog park and back!

Other than that, I am still out man shopping daily. I love uptown!

Eeks, Friday the 13th today??? Actually these days never bother me. I already had a really shitty day on Wed, so I’m free today to enjoy the wonders of Friday the 13th.

Will I meet the man of my dreams today? I will find a box of money? Oh who knows.

Today I am off to meet a fellow entrepreneur to discuss partnering of sorts. I don’t know what he has in mind, but I will find out and report back. Then I have a faboo luncheon with a friend down at McCormick and Schmidts downtown, then a big client at 1:00, then a client in St. Paul and that about finishes my week up. Of course I am bogged down with tons of little stuff to do for work, but I am going out with the girls tonight, so screw work! WOO!!!

Weekend should be good. I have to yet again wait for Sears to come and fix that challenged TV I bought. Thank god I bought that extended warrantly. BTW…I saved a bunch of money (no, not by going with Geico0) but by buying that warranty when mine ended after that first year. Don’t buy them right away, wait! You will save money and on those big TV’s…I highly recommend buy it.

Going out of town tomorrow to see my family for an overnight, Sunday I’m coming home and doing more organizing the unpacking I have done.

That’s it folks! Enjoy your weekend and thanks for bloggin with that girl!

WOW, I’m all unpacked! WOO! ok, sorta….stuff is shoved in closets, but the boxes are gone. I finally feel like I can live again and enjoy  my new ‘hood. Been out a bit and walking the dog alot more. Spring is almost here! I can’t believe I made it through another winter on the road.

Memory lane here…..

Looking back 13 years ago, March 10th was the day I started my ‘new life’ back at Winona State. I remember that day so well, it’s the day that changed my entire life. I packed up my old 77 Dodge pick up and drove to Winona at 8:30 in the morning. I parked right next to Somsen Hall and went in the building, registered for all my classes (mind you, my stuff is still just hanging out in the back of my truck for the entire campus to see) and then asked “Where is the computer lab”

After I got my stuff unloaded to my dorm, I went to my first class and bee lined it straight to Somsen Computer lab. Stayed there until I had a 6:00 Media class. Remember, the only reason why I changed schools from Rochester Community College to Winona State….was because I could have email. LOL. 1995, you couldn’t have emal at RCC unless you needed it for a class! How stupid!

For the next 4 years, I lived in that computer lab. I couldn’t get enough of it. The first year I about killed myself learning what “downloading” was. I wanted to download something so bad! I  After my first year, I bugged/begged the manager of the lab to hire me, mostly because I was tired of helping so many people for free. I worked in Somsen for 3 of the years and my final year was in the new Library, that rocked!! I loved that job too.

That’s my story of how I got into computers and feel in love with what I do.

ugh…very tired. Moved all weekend, still moving stuff in! When does it end? My truck has been packed full of junk, half going to the office, half going to the new pad…some going with my dog! It’s a calgon moment today for me….or tonight rather. I’m beat up.

On a good note…I have a mini-vacation this weekend, playing in a pool tournament down at Canterbury. I have been shooting decent in the past few weeks so I hope to kick some booty! And do some light “man shopping” teehee.

I will be working though this weekend even though it’s a small vaca…we don’t shoot for hours in between many times, so the laptop and me will be working furiously in the lounge area. I wish I could sit around and play poker, drink beers and mingle, but that has to take a backburner for some of the time. Being an entrepreneur some days can be hard, but it’s a life I love and am trying really hard to continue to have. But I will enjoy some downtime no matter what, and get in some BlackJack.

Working today in the office, taking Frankie to the dog sitter and then working on unpacking again…exciting stuff today! woo!

★Facebook, LinkedIn, Myspace, Twitter…what’s the dif?
I get asked often about these four…and there are many more “social media” sites up and coming. I am a LinkedIn maniac, but it’s because I have spent the last year living in and out of it for my business. Now I have made LinkedIn part of my personal consulting because I’m so good at it. But I suck at Twitter. I know how to Tweet and Dweet and Twit That…but I really don’t know it well enough to get others excited about using it. I am also “ok” at Facebook, but don’t know it enough for business use. I know how to use it for personal and I’ve made my site private so only my friends can see what I’m doing there. I love facebook right now, but have decided to keep my personal site private and therefore, I started a business facebook account that is open.  But it never gets any love because I’m on my personal one! Argh!! (I’m confused too).

Myspace is so 2006 for me and I never log in anymore.

Here is my description of the four top sites…If you’re interested in getting into one of the sites, see my descriptions and see what suits you best as a person. Not everyone is at the same speed socially.

LinkedIn/Business networking directory/Suit crowd
Facebook/Casual fun place to goof off/dockers crowd
Myspace/for the rockers, kids, socialite types/bikini and boots crowd
Twitter/for people who want to stay connected online/pajama crowd

★Why should should have a 2nd email account
I am doing a lot online, everything from ebay to facebook to internet dating to craigslist, etc. If you are doing any type of dating online, I HIGHLY recommend you have a 2nd email account that does not have your name in the email address.  I have a 2nd account that does not have my personal information on it. Why is that? Because I don’t want anyone online I am “interested in” to know my last name until I have met them in person. Now why is that? Because it’s for my personal safety. I know most guys or gals won’t stalk or get their creep on, but you never know I guess. I had a friend doing eharmony emailing from her gmail account that had full first and last name on it. I was like “girl, you need a dating email account!”…

★Call That Girl is now seeking cross-promoters!
I have changed the format of the CTG newsletters and with that, comes a new surprise that all the Jimmy’s crowd will enjoy (I hope!). If you are a small business that has a newsletter you send out and would be interested in cross promotions, email me and let’s see if we can help each other out. I have 4 folks lined up now so it seems to be a great idea!
