Microsoft Outlook is missing

Hi Folks, this is an article I published on my LinkedIn account, original titled “January 6, 2025 is a day to be ready for if you use Microsoft Outlook Desktop

Microsoft announced that on Jan 6, 2025, they are going to start deploying New Outlook to all of their Microsoft 365 Business and Premium subscribers. From what I read, it doesn’t mean every single user will have it deployed on Jan 6, but they are starting, and you will get the New Outlook at some point. You can switch back to Classic Outlook for a while but one day in the future, New Outlook will be the only offering if you want to use a version of Outlook. 2029 is the date they have planned to decommission classic Outlook. Will it happen sooner? My sources say yes. Below is an informational article I wrote with a lot of information. Please share this article if you find it useful. If you need my help, please call 612-865-4465 or visit my website www.callthatgirl.biz

You can read the message in your 365 Admin Portal here https://admin.microsoft.com/Adminportal/Home#/MessageCenter/:/messages/MC926895

In all my years as an Outlook Expert, I have helped 1000’s of clients with their custom configurations. Everyone has different setups and requests, I know how to configure them all so they work together. They have many different types of email accounts in their current profile, not just Microsoft Exchange. They have IMAP, POP, use PST files and of course, have 3rd party apps and plugins. I won’t sugarcoat it, I have some concerns with this push on Jan 6 for all my clients and any people who love what the classic Outlook can do.

This is all about to change, the New Outlook will only set up your email and if it has calendar/contacts included in the hosting, you should be able to view all your data in the New Outlook.

What to expect:

  1. If your Outlook is only connected using Microsoft Exchange, everything in your mailbox should show up in the New Outlook.
  2. If your Outlook has IMAP email accounts only, your email should setup in the New Outlook, you might be missing some data (calendar, contacts, etc.)
  3. If your Outlook is set up with POP using a PST,the New Outlook will setup your email as IMAP and all of your folders/data in a PST will be not available.
  4. iCloud for Windows will not work, you need to add it in again with New Outlook
  5. If you have a customized Outlook profile, your calendar, contacts, tasks and notes might be missing. New Outlook will not convert any data from a PST file.
  6. (This Computer Only) calendars, contacts, folders will not show up in the new Outlook.
  7. A bit of confusionwhen looking at the New Outlook. Every feature and function have been moved or changed or not included in the New Outlook.
  8. Happiness and Joy, some clients love the New Outlook and are ready for the future!

Some answers for you:

  1. Can you revert to the classic Outlook?Yes, there is a toggle switch in the upper right area of New Outlook to turn off. Once you toggle it, it should switch back to your old profile in classic Outlook. This switch back might bring everything back as you had it, I have had some clients call with everything gone. This toggle switch one day might go away though for you and then you are only going to have New Outlook available.
  2. Is there a registry fix for New Outlook to stop launching?Yes, but with all registry edits, I always recommend backing up the registry first and any registry edit can cause issues if not done correctly. I will not be posting that registry fix; you should call your vendor or Microsoft and have them assist.

How to prepare for the New Outlook

All Outlook users will need to prepare for New Outlook at some point. Here are some tips and I can help you migrate data to a cloud server. If you need my help, please call 612-865-4465 or visit my website www.callthatgirl.biz

  1. If you have a vendor or MSP (managed service provider) managing your computers and Microsoft accounts, check in with them if you have not heard from them about this. Ask them if they are turning off the policy or allowing it.
  2. Backup all of your PST files. If any are in OneDrive, you will want to make a copy and place a copy in your C: drive directly and to an external hard drive. There are many online cloud backup services but if the PST is in OneDrive, it might not be backed up.
  3. All data in a PST file needs to get migrated to a cloud server that allows more than email to be hosted. Options: Microsoft Exchange, Google Workspace, Hotmail and Outlook free accounts, iCloud, and Gmail are some that work in New Outlook. You don’t need a Microsoft Exchange subscription, there are free options. This is a service I can help with. See information below.
  4. (This Computer Only) folders, calendar and contacts need to get migrated to a cloud server as well. The data in any (This Computer Only) will not convert in New Outlook
  5. If you have one email account that you use for many different types of online accounts, you might need to get that squared up before your convert to New Outlook. Example: if your iCloud has the same email login as a personal Microsoft account, you cannot add it, you need to rename one of the accounts).

This transition from classic Outlook to New Outlook is going to be a big conversion for not just end users but technicians globally. Please understand that not all computer techs/MSP or IT consultants know Outlook at the level I do. It’s time to understand we are all going through this together and no one knows exactly what is going to happen.

FIX: Hotmail File Folder Has Disappeared

| November 18, 2024

Hotmail File Folder Has Disappeared

I had a client call in, one of their important folders for filing some data disappeared. I remoted in and didn’t see it on OWA. They were also using a MAC. We tested another browser and that didn’t show the folder. I logged into a PC and setup the Hotmail in classic Outlook and I found the folder under “Clutter”. I downloaded all the email,  then copied the folder back to under their inbox. It then synced up online and worked again.

Clutter is a discontinued feature of OWA/Exchange and has been replaced with “Focused Inbox”.

Their focused inbox settings were correct so I’m guessing that the Hotmail server had a glitch of sorts and it disappeard on it’s own, which can happen. Hotmail does not have that great of support as it’s a free Microsoft account. If you want to have a business email account and can then utilize Microsoft business support and get backup, reach out to me using the form below. I can help setup your accounts and migrate your Hotmail to a business Microsoft Exchange account.

Private instructor-led virtual classes New Outlook

Private instructor-led virtual classes New Outlook

In the next year, many companies will be seeing their Classic Outlook disappear and New Outlook will be replacing it. Some will see this by “force” from their IT departments or their IT company who is chosing to move to New Outlook.

This can cause a lot of issues for employees scurring to find where all their old features went or basically “how to use it”, there are so many changes! I can offer a quick 30 min tour for any company that will showcase the basics and I can go into some more advanced features if your company is using 365. There are a lot neat features that only New Outlook offers but many will be searching for basic things that they knew where it was, and now it’s gone. I can also offer 1-hour sessions or do some custom training for your company. It’s just me so options are available.

I offer Zoom based training and all sessions can be recorded.

How to Remove Show More Options in Windows 11 Properties

How to Remove Show More Options in Windows 11 Properties

Not the best fix, but one I can live with. Click on the Shift key when you click on the folder you want to see properties of. This will expand to show everything versus click on the “Show More Options” which is annoying to technicians. None of the reg hacks I’m seeing works, but I found this option in my searches. As I said, I can live with a keyboard shortcut! Super annoying as I look at properties often.

Hope this helps! XOXO
