Trusted Platform Module has malfunctioned

Trusted Platform Module has malfunctioned

One of the most ridiculous of all Microsoft error’s on earth. If you are seeing this, be prepared for a battle. Hopefully, this blog will help and I’ll punch out a few tips. I’m happy to help if you need me to remote in. You can schedule time here http://bit.ly/1C2IoEO

If this helped and you want to donate to my tip jar, please do! https://www.paypal.me/callthatgirl

From the two times I have seen this problem, one client could not get it fixed. The computer was 11 years old and worth getting a new one. The second client, just bought this computer and I helped them set it up months ago. Out of the blue…the error popped up. I do know that this has to do with modern authentication. Microsoft told me that any domains setup after October 2019 on a new Microsoft account, will have modern auth pushed out and you don’t know what’s coming when you get hit. Many technicians don’t know how to fix this bugger either. My tips below might not even work lol, but worth a shot.

Log into your Office.com account, this is hopefully only for business accounts.

Then type this in your browser aka.ms/mfasetup

Then you will see the graphic below. Change the option to what you see I have in my settings. This will not change your MFA, it will just remove the problem with the error. Then you have to maybe setup a new value in the registry DWORD 32: DisableADALatopWAMOverride.

Confused yet? I spent 45 min with the Microsoft tech and I am a very experienced tech, so you should expect way more time on this call if you need to call them.

Something went wrong with the data files and Outlook needs to close

This error took  me down a few troubleshooting roads. The issue was that after a Windows update, my clients Gsuite launched the above error. A bunch of old PST files starting coming back to life and none of them were in the Gsuite setup (very odd!)

I did my usual Outlook troubleshooting and finally, I found the right registry fix. If you are new to troubleshooting Outlook, this might not work for you and might break something else. I highly recommend you backup the registry and all Outlook email accounts/calendar and contacts to a PST before performing any work. If you need my help, you can use my scheduler below.

Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\PSTPromptRepair
Tip…you might need to select Office 16 and if the PST Prompt Repair is not there, this fix won’t probably work.

Change the value of the current Window. Change the value to 0, if it is 1.

Microsoft 365 New Orleans

Call That Girl offers Outlook and Microsoft 365 Expert Consulting and technical assistance to clients in the New Orleans area and around the world. We offer fast same day service with no contracts. Our remote support tools allow us to remote into many computers to be more efficient.

Most clients call us for the following reasons

  • Microsoft 365 is a bit confusing and they want to talk to someone who can explain it to them and ask the right questions to make sure Microsoft 365 is the right choice.
  • To reconfigure their Microsoft accounts, fix problems, remove duplicated OneDrive accounts, setup Outlook correctly, etc. I usually can fix all Office 365 problems.
  • New computer setup and data transfers.
  • They have already been through a migration that didn’t go well. Companies such as GoDaddy seem to have migrations that leave clients calling Microsoft to finish the job. Sometimes Microsoft cannot assist. This is where I step in and can help you resolve those last lingering issues and offer on-going support. See the “Need Microsoft 365 Aftercare” section below.
  • They are looking for a smaller experienced company to help with their migrations and have it go as seamless as possible.
  • Many small businesses have setup Microsoft 365 themselves and have questions about the products. Microsoft doesn’t have an easy to learn guide about OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams.
  • Training, I offer private one and one training and group training for specific products and Outlook. Click here to read my training scheduler or contact me for a quote for your group.

If you are an IT Professional and are looking for coaching, I am glad to help! Contact me for information on my Microsoft 365 coaching packages.

Need Microsoft 365 Aftercare?

  • Already on using it and have a few questions? I know the answers! Most issues are leftover problems your IT company doesn’t know how to fix it and I do.
  • Calendar and contacts a mess after a migration? I help clean it all up and help your team get organized with sharing with the team and for mobile device use.
  • What about SharePoint and OneDrive? I can help you with setting up, configuring and training. The hardest part of both of these is doing everything right the first time.
  • Phones, iPads and tablets not working right? Probably configured wrong, I will help you get everything in sync and teach you a few tricks I know to help your experience even be a better one!

Why Hire Lisa

Looking for an experienced technician? I have over 17 years of working with Microsoft Outlook and since 2010 have been migrating client’s email from pop/IMAP to Exchange. Over the years, I have worked on making my migration processes better by documenting issues from the past. While no migration is 100% seamless, I learn from issues and update my notes and surveys. Technology can change very fast and having a technician who is up to date on these issues is the value you get with working with a small company. As well, I’m the only technician so the call back times during migrations are immediate. If your company uses 3rd party apps such as Gmail calendar syncing, iCloud or other programs, I am familiar with most of those and know how to export data correctly.

Ready to get started?

We will start with a 1 one hour consult to discuss your migrations needs, Microsoft 365 purchase, get more information about your goals and create a game plan. Please use the scheduler at the bottom, find a good time that works for you and have all of your questions ready for the appointment.
