Does New Outlook Work Offline
On Oct 19, 2024 I did some testing and I would not say it was reliable yet. In time I’m sure Microsoft will have a better offline version, I would think they have to as some people aren’t online all the time because of travel, flights/location, etc.
Few things I found:
- I did turn off my internet and launched New Outlook. The first time, no emails would do a draft to reply. I got a white space. I could not view any emails in folders. Then I toggled internet back on, then off and it seemed to be happier and I could reply but not view some of the emails in folders. Maybe if I gave it more time it would load up more but I’m in testing mode now so I’ll update when I have more results.
- I also found you can go back 180 days for offline use, see image below on where to change the settings
- I also tried to send a message offline but when I went back online, they never sent. I got an error. I had to resend it again.
- Offline should be on by default, you can click on the gears in the upper right corner and then you can see the offline settings here

Update: I believe I got the fix finally. It took a bit of troubleshooting but I had to turn off 2-step authentication with the phone, remove the old Microsoft connection and then did some udpates on Office. I also reset the default to Chrome (you can go back to Edge after setting this up if you like). Relaunched Outlook and the sign in took me to Gmail and the new Gmail and Microsoft connection then worked. Is it ok to keep off 2-step with the phone? I can’t say but to get it working in Outlook this is what we had to do. The client is aware of this and accepted it as they wanted Outlook. I will look into this again next client I help. I don’t like turning off security but it’s up to the client. This may be a bug of sorts, but it’s a new error that I’ll still research as calls come in.
Google/Gmail and Outlook have so many bugs with setting up accounts, I wasn’t surprised when I saw this. If you need my help, use the form below to contact me.

I had a client who suffered from the Windows update on Oct 3, 2024 and after updating his Windows, his Google Workspace Sych with the GWSMO would not setup, install or do anything. After researching, I found that the new Windows update 24H2 is not supported by Google and we had to setup New Outlook.
After configuring, it did setup fine and did send email for a while. Then it stopped. I remoted back in and removed his account and then added it again and it’s working again. You cannot do any settings changes in New Outlook, it’s just making sure it’s connected. This might not stick but that’s what I did. I’m sorry to say that this is going to impact so many people and how they do email moving forward.

I took a call today for a client who had their Windows computer update to the latest 24H2 update and I did all the troubleshooting to only find this update crashed Google Workspace Connector and it’s listed on Google’s “Not Supported” page. https://support.google.com/a/answer/152855?sjid=837151656820201246-EU
