Category: Outlook SupportWhen you get your new computer, Microsoft will have you go through a set up wizard. During the set up, you will be asked to log into your computer with a Microsoft account. If you have your older computer there, look at the “settings” in that computer and find the email that you logged in with. That is the email you should log in with on your new computer. It will set up OneDrive as you had it on the older computer and download all of your desktop items, documents and whatever else you have stored in OneDrive.
If you want to only use your local C drive, there is a way to not set up OneDrive but it’s a bit of work and lately I haven’t been recommending it. In the past, some of my clients who wanted this didn’t know how much time it took and the possible issues in the future. What can happen? OneDrive might still be not set up, but it could still pop up one day and you click on a button and all of your local data is now uploading to OneDrive. Which can cause a lot of issues and problems.
A workaround?
Set up OneDrive and then chose to change your default save locations for your documents to be the C drive documents. Like this path: C:\Users\LisaE\Documents

For those folks who are willing to risk it and not upgrade their Windows 10 computers, here is a list of issues you could have. Some might be dealbreakers and some might have other band-aid options to get working. I’m not sure yet what will have problems so I’m risking it with you all. My main desktop is staying on Windows 10 with no option to upgrade to Windows 11. My other laptop has Windows 11 and I use it daily so I’m all set if something critical happens to my main desktop. I also have backed up all the data from the Windows 10 computer to an external hard drive, so it will be easier for me to set up a new Windows 11 computer. Btw…almost all of my daily use files are saved in my Business 365 OneDrive.

When you start up your new computer, it will have a start up wizard and that can take a few minutes to do. It will ask you during the set up wizard to log in with a Microsoft account or create a new one. I would go to the old computer and find out what account you logged into that computer with. It will make easier if you’re using OneDrive.

After the wizard has completed, you should run the updates. I would continue to check for new updates until done.

Then you can install your Office programs. If you need Outlook Classic you will need to download that as it does not come with 365 subscriptions anymore.
After Office is installed, then I set up Chrome, Adobe, Zoom Dropbox, Teams, Google drive, etc.
Finally, your data from the old computer. You can do this step at any time
Antivirus, Printers, VPN. I would save these for last due to the fact they can sometimes get in the way of the other installations
Outlook set up
Client called in with this issue and after some initial troubleshooting I determined it was Adobe. PDF’s printed fine with Preview App.
