How to add a Gmail account in New Outlook
How to add a Gmail account in New Outlook
There are two ways to add Gmail accounts in New Outlook. New Outlook is a more like a “skin” of the cloud working off your desktop, it will connect through the cloud. You cannot add accounts through control panel anymore. If you are Googling for an answer and want to know why it’s not working for you, I have some tips at the bottom of this message on most likely reasons.
#1
- In the left folder pane, at the bottom is “add account” and then a window pops up and you can type in your Gmail address.
- You will see “Sync your Gmail account” next, and hit “continue” at the bottom of the window
- This next step is tricky. Many of you have multiple Gmail accounts, so be sure you are logged into the default browser with the email you are trying to add.
- You might see a window asking you to chose which account. Log into the one you’re trying to setup.
- Once logged in, you will a window to “Sign in to Microsoft apps & services”, hit “continue”
- Next you will see “Microsoft apps & services wants additional access to your Google Account” and select all the boxes and hit continue.
- Next, the account should add to your New Outlook. You will see a “Success” message.
Take note: New Outlook will sync all contacts and calendars from any Gmail or Google Workspace account. This is by far my favorite feature of New Outlook (vs Classic Outlook, which cannot sync any Google natively)
#2
- Cick on the gears in the upper right corner of New Outlook
- In settings, click on “Accounts” on the left side of the window
- Click on “Add account” on the right side
- Follow instructions above.
Issues you might experience:
- If you have a personal Microsoft account with the same email as your gmail, you will have an issue. Microsoft will setup their accounts first and that will setup, but your inbox and everything will be most likely empty.
- If you are having issues with missing data (folders, calendar, contacts) from your classic Outlook (IMAP, PST, etc).
- If you have iCloud login with a Gmail address, you won’t be able to log in with your iCloud to sync that data. You will need to change your apple ID to a icloud.com account, not gmail.
- Reminder to be logged into the Gmail account in the browser, this will make it easier.
I can help migrate that data over for you so you can use the New Outlook. Use the form below to get in contact.
