How to add a PST to New Outlook
Just saw it yesterday folks! Please read this and if you need my help migrating data from a PST to a server so you can use the data more, please use the form below and get in contact.
- Click on the gear (settings) in the upper right corner.
- Under “Accounts” you will see “General” and in that list will be “Outlook Data Files”
You can add your local PST files there, but keep in mind, all you can do is read the email. You cannot move, copy, reply from that PST. It’s view only.
This PST feature might not last forever and it’s not that useful for Outlook super users. I have hopes that this might change but be prepared for a data migration to a server.
PROS
- New Outlook is super fast for searching and discovery
CONS
- Cannot reply, move/copy or do anything with the emails. New Outlook freezes when opening a large PST
- Cannot view contacts/calendar/notes/tasks in a PST file, only email and folders
- Doing any migrations from a PST to a server in New Outlook is not possible, I recommend you do it soon before you aren’t able to
- You cannot export a PST from New Outlook, you can only add it
- No categories, sorting options
Future thoughts
- If you are moving your PST data to the cloud (MS servers, Google, etc) you can put your deleted items in a PST (for now) and then just add that PST and save yourself server space.
- I will highly recommend though that any data you want to view in the future be moved to a server like Exchange/Google Workspace, etc. I can help with this if you need to migrate email from a PST to an online server.
