Category: New OutlookOn Oct 19, 2024 I did some testing and I would not say it was reliable yet. In time I’m sure Microsoft will have a better offline version, I would think they have to as some people aren’t online all the time because of travel, flights/location, etc.
Few things I found:
I had a client who suffered from the Windows update on Oct 3, 2024 and after updating his Windows, his Google Workspace Sych with the GWSMO would not setup, install or do anything. After researching, I found that the new Windows update 24H2 is not supported by Google and we had to setup New Outlook.
After configuring, it did setup fine and did send email for a while. Then it stopped. I remoted back in and removed his account and then added it again and it’s working again. You cannot do any settings changes in New Outlook, it’s just making sure it’s connected. This might not stick but that’s what I did. I’m sorry to say that this is going to impact so many people and how they do email moving forward.

I’m finding this to be a common problem with New Outlook. Some email hosts that offer IMAP are the most suspect. New Outlook has automatic setups and I have seen sometimes that some hosting companies are on older servers with technology that force you to try to set it up manually. And that’s not even a guarantee it will setup.
Here are a few options to help you get your email setup:

If normal setup fails, then try setup manually via Windows
If all these fail

If you are trying to log into iCloud and get an error from Microsoft, it’s most likely because you have a Microsoft account with the same email as your iCloud. Microsoft will always setup itself first, so then you need to change your Apple ID. I did this last week for a client, it was actually pretty easy.
Keep in mind that most of your data in classic Outlook if you’re using POP with PST will not be in the New Outlook. IMAP email will most likely be there. Exchange and Google Workspace will be there. Any calendar or contacts with (This computer only) will not be there. You will need to export that data from classic Outlook into the server via classic Outlook. This is a very confusing topic to explain in a blog post. Feel free to reach out if you want help doing this.

I had to poke around a bit to figure this one out. OneNote is consided an “app” in the New Outlook.
To move an email to OneNote, double click the email.
Once opened, in the right side of that window, next to reply, reply all and forward, you will see a small box with 4 squares in it.
Hover your mouse over it and you will see “Apps”
You should see “Send to OneNote” listed there, If you don’t, then the account you’re in might not support OneNote. This is so new to me too, I can’t say exactly. I clicked on it and noticed I had to log in, so it should be there for everyone.
Log into your OneNote account and try saving. For some of you with many different notebooks with different Microsoft accounts (business and personal) you might have to figure out what account to log in with. I know some of you also use the local OneNote desktop application and I found when you click “Save to OneNote” it opens in the cloud on the web. Not in the desktop application.

As of Sep 21, 2024, New Outlook does not support PST files. UPDATE: As of Dec 5, 2024, New Outlook does support PST. Read my new post about it here https://callthatgirl.biz/new-outlook-now-supports-pst-files
If you launched the New Outlook, you will notice no data from classic Outlook in a PST will be setup. Microsoft has stated that they will add viewing PST files in 2025. Viewing only allows you to see and read emails, you cannot reply from those emails and I’m guessing you can’t move them to your email server. I can’t verify that, but viewable usually only means viewing only.
So now how do you get your PST data (POP email, folders, calendars, contacts, groups, tasks, notes, etc) into the New Outlook? Well there is a migration of data coming your way.
