Microsoft Outlook 2016 will not connect to Microsoft Exchange
As you may have read lately online, Microsoft Outlook 2016 will not connect to Microsoft Exchange. Some information has been posted by Diane Poremsky already at http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/exchange-account-set-up-missing-in-outlook-2016
In my opinion, this is the article everyone is reading because Microsoft didn’t send out the “memo” about Outlook 2016 requiring “Autodiscover.” So, what if you are an average person trying to figure this out? What is Autodiscover and why won’t Outlook 2016 setup your email account?
Here is my latest video about this issue, might be helpful
Here’s the dirt, folks. (nutshell version)
If you have done the proper setup for your Microsoft Exchange, “Autodiscover” is a setting in the DNS zone files of your website that are usually done when your MX records are changed (it pretty much tells your website how to deliver your email and to who). Autodiscover allows you to bypass the manual settings, so Outlook generally just needs a name, email and password to connect to exchange. Now that Outlook 2016 does not allow “manual setup,” you have to have Autodiscover set it up.
Example: Client called me a few days ago. Could not setup Outlook 2016 with his exchange email hosted by Comcast. Comcast does not manage the settings but they give the client the settings to setup in the website domain control panel. In this clients case, his website control panel was being managed by Wix.com.
What happened is that the client never had Autodiscover set up in the first place, (probably an “oversight” by an under qualified Comcast “sales rep/tech”). Once I got the Autodiscover records set up right, his account set up just fine.
If you need help figuring this out, I can help. I will let you know that it took me almost an hour to get the records from Comcast setup and working because the first gal on the phone gave me the WRONG RECORDS. GRR!!!!
