OneDrive and how it works on Windows 11
When you get your new computer, Microsoft will have you go through a set up wizard. During the set up, you will be asked to log into your computer with a Microsoft account. If you have your older computer there, look at the “settings” in that computer and find the email that you logged in with. That is the email you should log in with on your new computer. It will set up OneDrive as you had it on the older computer and download all of your desktop items, documents and whatever else you have stored in OneDrive.
If you want to only use your local C drive, there is a way to not set up OneDrive but it’s a bit of work and lately I haven’t been recommending it. In the past, some of my clients who wanted this didn’t know how much time it took and the possible issues in the future. What can happen? OneDrive might still be not set up, but it could still pop up one day and you click on a button and all of your local data is now uploading to OneDrive. Which can cause a lot of issues and problems.
A workaround?
Set up OneDrive and then chose to change your default save locations for your documents to be the C drive documents. Like this path: C:\Users\LisaE\Documents
I can help with this and helping you with avoiding OneDrive.
