The worst of the worst viruses are coming….

I can’t seem to say this enough and each blog, I feel a bit silly saying that the ones coming out are worse that then the one before….I said was worse! This one is attacking the UK right now and will be on it’s way over to the states here soon. By the way, this type of virus is already here, just last week we had a client call in, her computer was “held ransom” and while we got the computer back to a running state, her data was encrypted. Luckily, this client was on her corporate computer and all of her work data was in a cloud app, so her IT team can assist with that. But what about you?

What you can do and should do. 

• Get an online data backup system. External drives yes, are ok…but who knows if a hacker/virus can attack that if you have it plugged in?
• If you have an external hard drive, back up your data and UNPLUG it when the backup is done.
• Do not open attachments that  you were not expecting from someone. And if you do get one, and it seems suspicious….email the person back confirming they sent it. Sometimes we get email from one person often and don’t even think about checking.
• Be sure your computers security is up to date and working, including Crypt0locker prevention software, which should protect your computer from such hacks.
• What else helps is moving your data to the cloud, your email, use Exchange. Data, use SharePoint.
• Get trained, most importantly.
• Do not ever open .exe files.
