New Outlook and the future with 365 Apps

New Outlook and the future with 365 Apps

If you’re an avid user of Outlook Classic like me, the New Outlook might take time some time to get used to. Once you are familiar though, the 365 apps will be fun for you to use I believe. Most of the big players will have apps available for you to use instead of the prior software requirements of downloading and installing on your computer. Zoom for example. Zoom has a 365 connector for you to use and then you can schedule directly in your New Outlook calendar. But what is coming, is all the new start up tech companies wanting to get in the game. In time, I expect to see apps for just about anything we want to do!

I’m also out exploring other apps you can use and from what I have seen, many are affordable to add on. I’ll review what I have found so far! None of these companies have paid me to be on this list nor am I earning an affiliate marketing commission. Just sharing for your information.

OneDrive and how it works on Windows 11

OneDrive and how it works on Windows 11

When you get your new computer, Microsoft will have you go through a set up wizard. During the set up, you will be asked to log into your computer with a Microsoft account. If you have your older computer there, look at the “settings” in that computer and find the email that you logged in with. That is the email you should log in with on your new computer. It will set up OneDrive as you had it on the older computer and download all of your desktop items, documents and whatever else you have stored in OneDrive.

If you want to only use your local C drive, there is a way to not set up OneDrive but it’s a bit of work and lately I haven’t been recommending it. In the past, some of my clients who wanted this didn’t know how much time it took and the possible issues in the future. What can happen? OneDrive might still be not set up, but it could still pop up one day and you click on a button and all of your local data is now uploading to OneDrive. Which can cause a lot of issues and problems.

A workaround?

Set up OneDrive and then chose to change your default save locations for your documents to be the C drive documents. Like this path: C:\Users\LisaE\Documents

I can help with this and helping you with avoiding OneDrive.

Problems you might experience if you stay on Windows 10 after Oct 2025

Problems you might experience if you stay on Windows 10 after Oct 2025

For those folks who are willing to risk it and not upgrade their Windows 10 computers, here is a list of issues you could have. Some might be dealbreakers and some might have other band-aid options to get working. I’m not sure yet what will have problems so I’m risking it with you all. My main desktop is staying on Windows 10 with no option to upgrade to Windows 11. My other laptop has Windows 11 and I use it daily so I’m all set if something critical happens to my main desktop. I also have backed up all the data from the Windows 10 computer to an external hard drive, so it will be easier for me to set up a new Windows 11 computer. Btw…almost all of my daily use files are saved in my Business 365 OneDrive.

Issues you could experience:

  • Security bumps and hiccups
  • Updates for Windows won’t continue or they will offer you a fee to stay on Windows 10 (see that out there, haven’t seen it in a clients sytem yet).
  • Office might have a few disrupts with security for 365.
  • Office might not launch, or opens/closes
  • Office might have issues updating
  • After you reboot, you could have issues with software that was working fine and now it isn’t
  • After you try to do an update, the reboot could have issues with logging into the computer
  • Some applications might not function correctly

If you need help help on this issue, please use the form below to get in contact
