GoDaddy Office 365 Problems

GoDaddy Office 365 Problems

As an Outlook Expert, Exchange Migration Specialist and Office 365 Consultant, I get calls in often from clients who have signed up with GoDaddy Office 365 and now have many regrets, read my blog below for more information.

To read my first GoDaddy Office 365 Review blog, click here https://callthatgirl.biz/godaddy-office-365-reviews

In the past few months, I have slowly been creating a list of major issues with GoDaddy’s Office 365 Business accounts. Before you read this, please know that I contacted them and they told me that they are able to sell their products at a cheaper price but only because they offer LESS of the Office 365 product. Feel free to call and ask for yourself if you want to know. But be assured, they are fast to sell you on Office 365 with their “credits” they will entice you with and half off the first year or some other “3 year deal” That “deal” could cause you hours and hours of headaches. Or as you will read below, you need more than what they offer and you have to migrate off their Office 365 plans. Which might be costly and time consuming.

Here is the list of technical snags I have come across

  • Cannot have administrator rights, so extra’s from Office cannot probably be added. My client was trying to add an app and could not and now has to migrate to the “real” Office 365. Doing that migration on Monday Sep 11, 2017 and since it’s an Office 365 to Office 365 CSP, it’s a full shut down on GoDaddy’s side.
  • Issue with downloading and using the OneDrive/SharePoint sync software. I had to find a workaround to get it to work. GoDaddy confirmed client was not given the full version of Office 365 because GoDaddy offers such a great discount to users. So again, the half-baked version. If you want a copy of those files, check out my SharePoint blog https://callthatgirl.biz/godaddy-sharepoint-desktop-syncing-problems
  • Cannot use 2-step or MFA, only a password reset for security. Another client got phished last week and she called, confirmed again, the half-baked doesn’t offer that.
  • Cannot view the admin control panel with all the functionality we need as techs to support clients. The ECP is only available if you know how to get it to.
  • They will have you call Microsoft for some troubleshooting/other vendors typically cover all troubleshooting
  • When you need to reset an Office 365 password, be careful….it takes you out of your usual Office 365 and back to the GoDaddy portal and yep, you might just reset the wrong password! Happened to me already.

Solutions:

  1. Since many of these folks got free migrations inbound from GoDaddy, they should expect a charge for migrating off. Depending on your services, you should consider having an additional charge to cover all the extra time you will have involved as a technician. These migrations are not standard. My first one GoDaddy cut-over I did was,1 mbx I did 2 months ago was 6 hours of my time. Another tech in a Facebook group spend 10 hours on his 1 mbx and so far with my migration I have scheduled for Monday, I have almost 2+ hours involved and I haven’t even touched her computer yet. For those using Skykick, I have no idea how this is handled as it’s not a typical migration. Just a tip, the email will not be able to have mailbox to deliver mail to flow to while GoDaddy releases the domain from the current Office 365. There will be downtime. My vendor has a way to keep email flowing. This will all be in my document, remember to contact me for a copy (it’s still in progress).
  2. Clients just have to use the half-baked version and figure out workarounds.

Call me to discuss your Office 365 needs, I offer a no cost consultation.

Techs, here is a blog to help you learn how to migrate completely off GoDaddy Office 365 https://callthatgirl.biz/how-to-migrate-godaddy-office-365-to-csp-or-another-vendor/

GoDaddy SharePoint Desktop Syncing Problems

GoDaddy SharePoint Desktop Syncing Problems

I had a client call in, wanting help with many Office 365 issues. Obviously he was frustrated, he bought a 4 hour ticket from me in less than 10 minutes. But when we had our first appointment, he asked me to fix a few minor Outlook issues and then dove into the real issues. He was on GoDaddy Office 365 and could not setup desktop syncing for SharePoint. HUGE problem. I looked into it and said to him “Your settings don’t look like mine”. Now I have experience with GoDaddy Office 365 but never had a request for SharePoint desktop syncing. I have a few other GoDaddy blogs at the end of this blog, but for now, here is how I fixed this.

You need to edit the registry with a certain fix and then you need to download the correct OneDrive that should show up as “SharePoint” in your file explorer in Windows. I have both of these files. To get a copy from my dropbox, contact me below. If you found this information valuable, you can donate to my Paypal or sign up for my $10 helpdesk package.

If you’re an end user, you might want to schedule time with me or my OneDrive expert. This is not an easy fix for someone who does not have experience.

Tips on which to buy for Office 365 Home, the one-time purchase or subscription model?

Tips on which to buy for Office 365 Home, the one time purchase or subscription model?

Tips on which to buy, the one-time purchase or subscription model?

Hi folks! in my last newsletter I covered a lot about buying Office 365 but some of you who are old school and like purchasing it one time might want to know the differences on buying or subscribing. I’ll fill you in!

There are benefits to using the subscription, if you don’t need the “extras” then you are looking at this…buying will is about equal to 2 years of subscribing. Then you own it for life or until it no longer works (Office 2007 still works for some folks!) so you might get 8 free years of your purchase.

The Office 365 Home subscription offers 5 installations for any 5 members of your family for $99. One computer is $69.00. Reminder, this is not your business computers. Some of my clients do buy this version not knowing it’s for “family” only. I let them know when renewal time comes around to purchase the correct version.

This is what MS states on their website about Office 365 Home

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/d/office-365-home

  • Best for households
  • For 5 PCs or Macs, 5 tablets including iPad, Android, or Windows, plus 5 phones Fully installed versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote, plus Publisher and Access for PC only
  • Exclusive upgrades and new features
  • 1 TB OneDrive cloud storage per user, for up to 5 users
  • Microsoft support via chat or phone at no extra cost Your subscription will automatically renew.
  • Cancel anytime.
  • Compatible with Windows 7 or later and Mac OS X 10.10. All languages included.

Here is my extended description!

  • Their tech support is pretty good for help with the applications. They do not help with email account setup and other 3rd party apps (that’s what I do) but I have counted on them to help clients with really messy installation issues. They are helpful and it saves me and the clients time.
  • You can also use OneNote and those notebooks are saved in OneDrive and can sync across all computers and phones/devices. Many of my clients LOVE OneNote so this is important for them.
  • You also get 60 minutes of Skype time.

Benefits of buying just the software one time

  • You buy it once and it will last for a long time. Look at Office 2003, it still works technically but the upgrades and features are out of date. I no longer can add an exchange account to 2003, Outlook 2007 still works but only one account per profile.
  • It’s for one computer only and only the Office desktop applications.
  • From my experience, you can still get Microsoft support on this purchase even if you bought it from Amazon or a Best Buy, etc.

Be careful!

  • When buying online, be mindful. If it’s cheap, you might be in for cat and mouse game of “will this activate” and “has it been pirated” many times. This is common. Remember, saving a few dollars might cost you time!
    • You might experience an activation issue or logging in problem. These usually can be resolved by calling Microsoft.
  • Best purchased right from Microsoft.
  • Be careful when setting up a new Windows 10 computer with your Office 365 accounts, I am seeing folks having issues with this.
  • I have a feeling that Microsoft will not offer free support for this product after some time, just keep this in mind. Right now I think they are though supporting at no cost. I am not 100% sure!

Final reminder:

  • I do not sell Office 365 Home to clients, I will help you purchase and install/configure.

That’s it folks! My next and final newsletter for the Office 365 series will be supporting Office 365, mostly business.

Microsoft Office 365 vs G Suite

Hi Folks! Last spring I was asked to speak at the American Bar Associations Tech Show held in Chicago. I did two presentations and one I thought you might find interesting when researching Office 365 vs G Suite Google Apps is the PowerPoint I did with John Frederico from Affinity Consulting. I have it in a PDF for you to view and you can download. John and I got down to about everything we both knew about both platforms. If after reading this and you want to move ahead with Office 365 I can assist. If you want to migrate to G Suite I have a referral for you. Just let me know, glad to help! My contact form is below.
