Sync Stopped You can’t edit this notebook because it’s location is no longer available. To resolve, save a copy of the notebook

OneNote is not the easiest program to troubleshoot but I will also add, it’s not a call I get often. So, good with the bad news here. Recently I took a call from a client who had an update from Windows that corrupted all her notebook and sections, and she had a lot of them.

She did have a collection of her notebooks that were in a “misplaced sections” and that data was fine. Any other recoveries just created empty sections. There was also a little ^ in the name of each section (these are bad and data can’t be added/saved or edited from what we found)

Before ever doing any repair work, be sure you have a backup

So I tried this and it worked. Took a while to figure out, so don’t expect this to be a quick repair:

Simple instructions:

  • I created a new notebook on a new account (I used a completely different 365 account)

  • Added the misplaced section

  • Exported to a new section with a new name.

  • Then I copied it to the new notebook. I see it in the new account desktop and cloud
