Wow! What a week I’ve had! I was crazy busy and now I’m just finally able to do something for my personal life hah! Today I slept in and then did some email catch up, decided it was time to get out of the house and run tons of errands I needed to do.
I started off my day with going to see 2 apartments. The first one was decent, but the bathroom wasn’t up to my liking so it’s off the list. I told the guy that he needed to update the apt and he looked at my like “why” haha! because your bathroom is gross dude! Seriously…the paint was coming off the walls by the shower, how gross! I could not deal with that. And since he gave me that look, it wasn’t worth even asking him to fix it up. Next!
The next apt had me frightened. Enough about that.
My next errand was to get my puppy Frankie and doggie treat for tonight so we hit Urban Animal. There was a crazy dog in the store and I had to high tail it out of there. Next visit was the vitamin store. I love that place. I buy my “energy vitamins” Life Force 120 caps for $30. I love that stuff! I was a die hard Red Bull addict until I found these vitamins and I haven’t had a Red Bull since.
Off to the dog park! wait! I was starving…so I stop at Caribou on 24th and Hennepin for a D’Amico Turkey wrap…it was pretty good, but they should have added a wee bit more of the mayo, kinda dry. Off to the dog park! I was almost there and got a client call to pick up a computer at the office, so back to Nicollet and Franklin I go!
Client got the computer, back to the dog park…but I decided to hit Walgreens to drop off my ink cartridge. She ended up being able to fill it while I “waited” or what I call “shopping” time. I ended up spending $56. yikes!
Finally off to dog park with a quick visit first to the TCF in Uptown.
Dog Park was awesome! No fights for Frankie and he got his dog on…I love good dog park days.
Left Lake of the Isles and went to Payless, found some winter tennis shoes. Stopped at BBuster and got a flick “burn after reading” and then hit Chi-Lake for some Wine. That was an afternoon of running around I tell ya!
Got home and made some soup, biscuits and then didn’t feel good. Laid down for awhile, now I’m showered and do feel better a bit. I’m still very physically exhausted from this past week and mentally in need of a good day off. But not tomorrow…I have to work in the office all day.
the life of a struggling entrepreneur.
I’ve decided to change how my blog works. Back in college, I was a writer for our school paper, “The Winonan” and it was really fun to write about whatever I wanted. I had a weekly column, “I need a moment”. I wrote for 2 years, then didn’t get renewed my senior year…which sorta peeved me off. So instead of just staying mad, I worked on my own underground newspaper, “Censor This!”.
Since my business is building like mad right now and my brain is always focused on work, I felt that writing a blog about my day, clients and dramas, would be something that would help me keep track of memoirs and entertain the blog readers.
I’ll start with today. Today I woke up and was wondering if today I would still be receiving emails about the Strib article. Yep, all day long again! I can’t believe how it’s continuing on. 4 days later and I’m still getting emails about information for the Project workshops, speaking engagements and folks just congratulating me for a great piece. More importantly…I’m being thanked for creating the project and helping out even though I have a business to run. I feel so happy to be helping and will continue to help as much as I can.
When you take the first step out into the entrepreneur world, you have no idea what is going to happen. Last December I spent the better part of the month preparing for the Women’s Expo and putting on my “freshman 15”. I was not thrilled with the weight gain that I got from working out of my basement. Last December, I also only had 4 clients at that point, so for me to start this past Dec with a slow week due to holiday and fearing a comeback of “Last December” and being asked by pure strangers to help them find jobs…creating the project only seemed to what needed to be done to save me and help others who really wanted my help.Business picked up again for me shortly after, but I have found the ways to make it all work. I’m a natural connector and I am enjoying every minute of this.
So on with the day…
I decided to work from home as I had a remote phone support at 9:30 and could lounge around for that. I love working from home, but don’t get those that often anymore. Then I went to the office to find out our internet was down. Yay! Couldn’t do much, so I cleaned my purse and my drawers. My 1:o0 with my business developer Mary Chapa had to be moved to Green Mill where we worked out some business plans.
We came back to the office, still no internet. We borrowed some from the neighbor and figured out the rest of the plans and off I go on the road yet again to a final 5:30 appointment.
Got home and relaxed and called it a day!
In easy to understand terms…there is an Internet virus spreading like wild fire right now. I see this in my shop at least a couple of times a week. It’s not a virus that is usually caught by your standard anti-virus program. I call this thread of viruses “A family”. It’s actually got a few names that it runs under but for the general user, they will see “Antivirus 2008 ” or “Antivirus 2009” on their desktop or start getting pop up ads for removal.
There are many ways the virus tricks you into downloading it. One way is through the fake “Google” window, they replicated Google and the whole window is “the virus” so no matter what you click on, even the X in the corner…you have activated a download. This is very tricky to avoid, so I just recommend going to your start menu and rebooting your computer. There are other ways to close this window, but for the general user, this is easiest. This goes for Macintosh users as well…I have seen the “windows” pop up on my Macintosh.
Once you get the virus, if you get it removed right away…you’re in good shape. If you let the virus grow, your computer could end up on the reformat block (meaning, starting your computer from scratch and losing everything if not backed up).

Things are going well with the project, on day 3 since the launch we have approximately 30 people signed up for the workshops and many pro-bono helpers on board! It’s been an exciting movement to watch, especially since just 2 weeks ago, this project had no life.
We are moving to getting some sponsors to help give to the attendee’s. We have already got Culligan on board, thanks to Jeff Walen! We are also working on a few other opportunities that have been presented to us.
The workshops are filling up, people are excited to help…I couldn’t be more happy right now:)
Teaser….I thought I would blog about this before the launch. For those that actually read my blog, you get a heads up first!
In the past few weeks, I’ve been receiving calls and emails from folks asking for my help with networking and such, to get new leads for jobs. I wish I had time to meet with everyone and help…but I do not right now. I have a business to run and I love helping….as much as I can. So I came up with an idea, ran it by a few folks and after I got the “It will work” from all of them, I forged ahead with Project: LInk It Forward.
This project in a nutshell is myself and few others conducting free workshops to the unemployed, laid off, job seekers on how to find good leads and opportunities on LinkedIn. I’m a megaconnector and I adore LinkedIn, so it makes sense for me to share my knowledge with those in this time of need.
I’m launching the project (hopefully tomorrow!)…and I have the volunteers all set up and ready to roll. We have all the i’s dotted and t’s crossed. It’s been a lot of work to get this done, but I know it will be worth it once we have it rolling. I’ll report in my blog how it’s going, so stay tuned!
Just a quick post today, I’m doing some “desk time” to get little stuff done and work on some lingering projects and proposals for the week. Who knew I would become a business developer on top of a computer repair technician, marketing/advertising director. Yeah, I wear all those hats!
Busy day today….this morning I’m finishing up desk time and then taking my dog to the dog park for a good morning play time. I have to go to the office to pick up a mouse for a client and then go to workout, come home and get ready for an all day event that my friend Cyndi is hosting. After that, I will probably drink some wine and do nothing!
What am I doing today for “desk time”….reviewing a salesforce.com demo, thinking of signing up, set up a facebook ad, reviewed projects with my facebook and twitter interns, worked on my to do list for next week, prepared for a new and upcoming “volunteer” project that I’m not sure I have time to do but it’s so important to me that I almost feel that I have to do it. More about that later….
On to house chores and then my busy day! I hope to report more tomorrow…
