Something went wrong [2002] Outlook error
something went wrong [2002]
Quite possibly one of the worst Microsoft errors I have yet to see and could not repair and I’m very good at repairing Outlook errors. I’m telling you this story in case you went down the rabbit hole of the something went wrong [2002] error.
This error popped up in Outlook when a client started work, guessing an update caused this. He was using MS Exchange and didn’t have any other emails connected in that Outlook profile. Since I know all the hacks, reg fixes, tricks of Outlook, I literally spent almost 2 hours trying to fix it. I used all the knowledge I have in my 17 years of fixing Outlook; registry fixes, tech blogs, Microsoft tech articles and finally a call to Microsoft and they could not fix it, we had to give up. I decided to call it and the client agreed, this profile was corrupted beyond repair.
I created him a new Windows profile, not connected to a Microsoft account. Launched Outlook and his email connected in no time. After that, I had to set up his Teams and OneDrive and that worked quickly, this took about 20 min total. I’m not saying this will fix your issue, but this is what I know helped my client get back to work. And no, I didn’t charge him my full rate on this request, it was a serious R&D. I know for the future what to do and what not to do.

Update Aug 23, 2024
This post is not even a year old but it’s my #5 searched post on my website. In the next 1-5 years, the New Outlook will not have this issue but I’m sure the New Outlook will have plenty of other issues you might experience. I’m preparing for the New Outlook as Outlook is my a lot of my support requests. Keep me in mind when your time comes to update, your current Outlook configuration may require some help with calendars/contacts, notes, etc to migrate to a Microsoft Exchange server. Or you might have questions on how it works or whatever else you might encounter.
