Keyboard shortcuts that you will never forget

| May 8, 2009 | 0 Comments

Morning y’all!

Nothing too exciting happened yesterday. I had an office day for the most part, then I ended my day/night with a facial from Jungle Red Salon. OMG, does my face feel awesome! I got a chemical peel too, which I can’t believe I got. I’m 40, so I guess I should expect those “recommendations”. Desiree did a great job! If anyone wants to book an appointment, make sure to mention “Lisa” and I will earn $10 in credit, that will be helpful for the chemical peek #4 I need…ouch. That one burns I guess. I had the #1 yesterday, can’t even see burn marks LOL.

Today is a busy day, back to back clients, then ending with a short happy hour to celebrate the intern’s birthday.

The Tips and Tricks:

Many of us have been using computers for so long now, that you assume everyone knows all the little easy shortcuts on the keyboard. Not the case! Everyone tends to use the computer how they are taught or learned by reading/training or by accident (which is my favorite discovery).

A few keyboard shortcuts for the rookies and gentle reminders for the seasoned keyboarders…

**OMG, my computer froze and I didn’t save that huge word doc!

Hit the Alt key + tab key = shows you all the programs you have open.

This is super handy when one application freezes and it appears to be your whole computer. Many times the Alt Tab trick can get you to a document that you don’t have saved and “woo hoo” save the day!

**Hey, every time I type, it deletes what I just typed!

Hit the “Insert” key.

I honestly don’t know what the insert key does nor have I ever used it, I just know this trick works.

My computer is running, but it won’t come to life! It’s in a computer coma!

Stop using the “sleep” function.

Computers like to sleep as much as we do and when you put them to “sleep” they can sleep really deep and not wake up nicely.

Whoa, my website just totally changed and I lost all my menu bars!

You hit the F11 key probably.

Hit it again and the website will go back to normal with the toolbars

Remember to keep Call That Girl in mind for your next computer repair to!

I love my tires!

| May 7, 2009 | 0 Comments

SHAMWOW! I love my new tires! I got the Firestone Destoyers (I think that’s the name) and do I feel like a new woman! Driving around yesterday was like flying an airplane. Loved it!

Ok, enough happy happy. Yesterday was a good day, hit the Bloomington Clients and got them both squared away. Then raced back to the office to interview an intern from Hamline. I liked her, I think she will make the cut. I’m working an “intern academy” right now. What is that you ask? It’s a team of students from St. Thomas, Carlson School of Management and Hamline who will be my business developers, office managers and marketing team. As a start up business, I have alot to offer interns and in return, they will learn and help me too. They will get to work on many hands-on projects, be decision makers and actually have something worth some weight in their portfolio. I love helping as much as I can, so this will be another worthwhile project.

Speaking of projects…the Project Link It Forward is coming to a close. With so many folks out there doing workshops, the market is saturated and marketing was getting thin. We helped literally 100’s of people learn how to network with Linkedin, it was  great experience and so worthwhile doing. I have heard so many success stories, it’s incredible.

Ended my day last night totally exhausted. Felt like a coma would have been a good idea…Today I am refreshed though and am ending my day with a facial and some time on the treadmill. Today WILL be a great day! It’s awesome outside, skirt day too!

The New Entrepreneurs

| May 6, 2009 | 0 Comments

I was thrilled to have an office day for once, just me…all day, all day. I didn’t even turn on the music, I just worked like a maniac. Got caught up on tons of “little things”. I took my puppy to downtown dogs so he could have a good day too. After work, I picked him up and dropped him off at home and then I went and did something I have been needing/wanting to do since last fall..I bought new tires!

While the tires were being installed, I headed down to Bryant Lake Bowl for a glass of wine and some downtime. While I was chilling out, I happened to meet a couple of people and they were discussing jobs and resumes and such. Turns out the guy in the group was just let go and of course…I had to chime in of course. I gave him my 2 cents on the job market and then he in turn said he was going to start freelancing. Excellent! I love the new entrepreneurs. With how things are going now…if you have a skill and the desire to do it on your own, you might as well.

I’ll be conducting workshops starting towards end of May for the rookie entrepreneurs and the seasoned vets. I have learned so much in the past almost 2 years, it’s time for me to share that knowledge. I’ll post the info here on the blog.

So today should be a good day, now that I got the new tires on, I can BLAZE around Bloomington again! Back to the folks out there to finish up. Then off to look at a new office space..I’m very excited to get moving on with that.

Happy Hump Day!

On the road again, May 4, 2009

| May 5, 2009 | 0 Comments

Seems I have been on the road way too many days in the past few weeks…enough that it’s time I start blogging about the road and the funny things I encounter. If you don’t or haven’t worked “on the road”…it’s quite a life I tell you. Some days I just zip to a clients house, most days though I am back to backing appointments. Trying to book everyone in the same area on the same day isn’t easy either, but I am making it happen!

Yesterday I had to go down to the office and finish doing a data move and pick up a client machine for drop off in Bloomington. Then off to Oak City in Bloomington for a LinkedMinnesota meeting. Almost 70 people were there and it was quite an event. Lots and lots of networking! I even had strangers asking me what was going on…it was pretty cool. And 3 folks told me that they read my blog. I can’t even being to tell you how cool that is….all three brought up 3 different topics too!

Then after Oak City, off to give the client back her computer and off to Macy’s at Southdale to look for fun sunglasses. No joy. I didn’t like any of them. Back on the road to a clients house and that computer….just would not play nice. I had to reschedule for Wed. Off to another client and headed home around 6:15.

Thought about stopping at Subway in SLP for a sammie, but as I was turning in the lot, a lady was waiting for a spot. She just sat there forever and I’m thinking “good gravy lady, the lot is half empty! move it!”….and then another spot opened up a bit closer to Subway so she took that one! ARGH!!! I had to wait for nothing. I was so mad I didn’t even go to Subway and just went home and cooked dinner.

Probably a better idea anyway:) That was my day yesterday, enjoy your Tuesday!

The spring fling!

| May 3, 2009 | 0 Comments

It’s time for a Call That Girl spring fling! Out with the old, in with the new! I’m very excited to move ahead with a few new ideas I have been working on for the past 2 months. I know how I am…I get bored when things get too blah. I need fresh!

As many of you know, I change up my tag line every so often. My new tagline is “the next fresh thing”. My friend Mary Chapa has been helping me with the taglines as she has been following my entrepreneurship and listening to all my stories since fall of 2008. She knows me and the business, where I have been and knows where I want to be. Being the next fresh thing has meaning. For me, it’s starting to let go of the past things and finding new fresh things to do with my life and business. As much as I love and adore the social media and all of that, there is more to advertising and marketing online than just Linkedin, Facebook and Twitter. As part of my entrepreneurism, it also excites me to find the new fresh things so follow along with the adventures!

With that said, my blog will now have some new entries. I will continue to give “tips and tricks”…but in addition, I will have a category for “On the road with Lisa”. I will start blogging about my crazy days on the road in the Twin Cities area. I have a friend who is also going to help me eat healthy on the road (seems I eat at Holiday Gas Station too much)…so she will be coming up with a new “on the road diet” for me too. This will be a challenge for her because she is coming up with all the healthy choices from all the fast food places and Holiday Gas Stations. I laughed when we thought of the idea, but it makes sense if you are on the road as much as I am. Funyons is far from healthy, but easy to eat in my truck.

On to other things…I had to work yesterday and am now working today too. No time off for this girl. I have one computer in the shop that crashed and the client hadn’t backed up any of the family pictures. I have the computer on the backup recovery cd and so far have found 6000+ pictures, so he will be a happy guy. Today I have 2 clients in Bloomington and oddly…they are neighbors. Seriously too, like right across the street from each other. Then I will go and spend some money at Target. As much as I hate Target, I need some stuff and Walmart in Bloomington is closed for now. Then off to Petco to get my dog washed and clipped. Then to close my Sunday, I will go to my fitness center and walk 2 miles. It’s much easier for me to walk 2 miles on the treadmill than actually walk 2 miles on the streets.

That’s it, today’s blog is done. Enjoy your Sunday folks!
