2 reasons why you should check your junk folder

| August 3, 2016 | 0 Comments

junk email folderNever check your junk mail folder? 2 reasons why you might want to start. Many of my clients never check their junk mail folders, but I tell them all the time to please check it!

The rules for why emails land in the junk (or spam) folder are not very consistent these days, in fact more and more emails are landing in the junk mail folder more than ever. Some emails are now getting blacklisted or spamlisted, some have website links that your email considers “bad” and some domains are listed as junk overall….so the best way to not lose out is to check that folder daily.

So let’s start with reason #1 Yes…money is the junk mail! New client requests, scheduling appointment requests, payments, etc. You can never tell what caused this important money making email to land there, but if you don’t look, you won’t see it.

Reason #2 Ever get that question, “Did you get my email?” and you are so sure you didn’t? Check the junk folder, it’s probably there.

If you want some personal help with learning Outlook and how to use the junk mail folder, I offer training and have Outlook Training videos available.

Tips for Salesforce and Outlook 2016 and IMAP

| July 14, 2016 | 0 Comments

downloadI had a client call in who needed to downgrade their Outlook from 2016 to Outlook 2013 because their email platform would not be compatible. They are on IMAP and did not want to move to Exchange, so I gladly helped them downgrade so their Salesforce would work again.

Here is a bit more information about downgrading..

So, before doing the downgrade themselves, they went out and found me to help with their data.  The client was worried about their data and potential loss of data.  As they should be!  I have had to downgrade a few clients now and while I always backup data first, I have seen calendars and contacts go missing. Why is that?

Downgrading from 2016 actually removes the profiles created in 2016 and I have seen the OST files go away as well.  What is an OST File?  Maybe I should start there. An OST file is a shadow copy of what is on the server, so let’s say you have an IMAP account setup or Exchange, those are meant to synchronize with the servers, so the OST file allows you to work offline and have local copies. Sometimes though, the calendar and contacts are kept in an OST file as well (this computer only) and those might go away too.  Outlook 2013 has it’s own mail controls and when you downgrade you will need to make all new profiles. So, if that data is gone, it is very hard to get back.

This is why you might need me to help and get that data backed up just in case.  If you need my help, please contact me below or use my scheduler for an appointment. Thanks!
