Microsoft Office 365 Tips

Hi Folks! I decided this past week to create a quick blog series about Microsoft Office 365 for end users and for new technicians to learn. The first blog is about tips on buying Office 365 (from who, how). The second blog is about what version to buy and the third is best support options. I also created a pricing page so you can get an idea how pricing can go for vendors, migrations, support. Of course I can help with my partners, but this blog series is intended for you to learn and make better decisions with your Office 365.

Tips on Microsoft Office 365 Support

Tips on Microsoft Office 365 Support

Office 365 Microsoft vs Vendor vs Your Local Tech

Well folks, this ends my 3 part series of Office 365 tips. I’ll close with discussing support which is a very important part of your Office 365 experience.

So you want to buy, you read my tips and now you have to decide what to do. Buy from Microsoft directly? Go through a vendor or buy through your local computer tech (Me or your tech of choice).

Many folks get so excited about getting into O365, they buy direct from Microsoft and then learn some lessons right away. There are no instruction manuals on how to use the products and Microsoft will not migrate your email from your current email host to their Exchange product. They don’t have easy instructions to follow to setup OneDrive correctly or how to use SharePoint. Teams is pretty easy to figure out as well as Skype for Business, Bookings and other new add-ins, but the first three I mentioned usually requires help from an experienced technician. If you buy from Microsoft, you will have to use their support for everything if you don’t have a vendor or technician.

Now let’s say you are about to buy and decide to work with a bigger vendor on your own. They should handle the migration work and will help with first level work, but any detail work is not their sweet spot. This is when I start getting calls, when issues arise outside of their knowledge range.

If you have now decided to work with your local technician or myself, this is what you should expect. Experience and Managed Expectations.

Plus you are supporting someone who owns their own business, has pride in their work, usually answers calls quickly and you are their client, so you and should expect faster service and never have to call Microsoft yourself.

I am one of the local techs (*remote counts) and use AppRiver as my vendor. So I have 24×7 backup for my clients. When I set up a client with AppRiver, they pay Appriver, call them for basic first level needs and I help with the rest. I don’t have contracts but sell prepay tickets. Each local tech company will have their own setup, some might have a monthly managed service plan that includes support and some like me, might use another vendor. And there are some that work straight with Microsoft and you still should only work with the local tech company.

With so many ways to support Office 365, what is best option? Consider your budget before making any decision. While it may appear to be a bit more heavy on the budget to pay a smaller company, you usually get better support and customer service. Remember you get what you pay for and downtime can be costly for you.

Below is a link to check out my pricing for migration work and my Office 365 support. Feel free to compare with other companies while you are searching for your next support company.

GoDaddy Office 365 Help

Hi Folks! I have created a series of GoDaddy Office 365 Help blogs for you to read and learn from. If you are a client, some of this will require help from a professional IT company, such as migrations or registry fixes. But for general information, all blogs are a good read.

GoDaddy Office 365 Migration

GoDaddy Office 365 Migration

As an Outlook Expert, Exchange Migration Specialist and Office 365 Consultant, I get calls in often from clients who have signed up with GoDaddy Office 365 and now have many regrets, and want to move their Office 365 from GoDaddy to Microsoft direct.

In the past few months, I have slowly been creating a list of major issues with GoDaddy’s Office 365 Business accounts. Before you read this, please know that I contacted them and they told me that they are able to sell their products at a cheaper price but only because they offer LESS of the Office 365 product. Feel free to call and ask for yourself if you want to know. But be assured, they are fast to sell you on Office 365 with their “credits” they will entice you with and half off the first year or some other “3 year deal” That “deal” could cause you hours and hours of headaches. Or as you will read below, you need more than what they offer and you have to migrate off their Office 365 plans. Which might be costly and time consuming.

Here is the list of technical snags I have come across

  • Cannot have administrator rights, so extra’s from Office cannot probably be added. My client was trying to add an app and could not and now has to migrate to the “real” Office 365. Doing that migration on Monday Sep 11, 2017 and since it’s an Office 365 to Office 365 CSP, it’s a full shut down on GoDaddy’s side. I will have a document available for those that want a copy. Use my contact form below or check back on this blog later.
  • Issue with downloading and using the OneDrive/SharePoint sync software. I had to find a workaround to get it to work. GoDaddy confirmed client was not given the full version of Office 365 because GoDaddy offers such a great discount to users. So again, the half-baked version. If you want a copy of those files, check out my SharePoint blog https://callthatgirl.biz/godaddy-sharepoint-desktop-syncing-problems
  • Cannot use 2-step or MFA, only a password reset for security. Another client got phished last week and she called, confirmed again, the half-baked doesn’t offer that.
  • Cannot view the admin control panel with all the functionality we need as techs to support clients. The ECP is only available if you know how to get it to.
  • They will have you call Microsoft for some troubleshooting/other vendors typically cover all troubleshooting
  • When you need to reset an Office 365 password, be careful….it takes you out of your usual Office 365 and back to the GoDaddy portal and yep, you might just reset the wrong password! Happened to me already.

Solutions:

  1. Since many of these folks got free migrations inbound from GoDaddy, they should expect a charge for migrating off.
  2. Clients just have to use the half-baked version and figure out workarounds.

Use my scheduler link below to talk about your issues and figure out a new game plan.

GoDaddy SharePoint Desktop Syncing Problems

GoDaddy SharePoint Desktop Syncing Problems

I had a client call in, wanting help with many Office 365 issues. Obviously he was frustrated, he bought a 4 hour ticket from me in less than 10 minutes. But when we had our first appointment, he asked me to fix a few minor Outlook issues and then dove into the real issues. He was on GoDaddy Office 365 and could not setup desktop syncing for SharePoint. HUGE problem. I looked into it and said to him “Your settings don’t look like mine”. Now I have experience with GoDaddy Office 365 but never had a request for SharePoint desktop syncing. I have a few other GoDaddy blogs at the end of this blog, but for now, here is how I fixed this.

You need to edit the registry with a certain fix and then you need to download the correct OneDrive that should show up as “SharePoint” in your file explorer in Windows. I have both of these files. To get a copy from my dropbox, contact me below. If you found this information valuable, you can donate to my Paypal or sign up for my $10 helpdesk package.

If you’re an end user, you might want to schedule time with me or my OneDrive expert. This is not an easy fix for someone who does not have experience.
